Here at the Grange Retreat, we offer an extensive list of services from a Bath and Blowdry to Puppy Acclimatisation Sessions. For a full list click here.

Below is a list of FAQs to give you some more information on the fabulous packages we offer. Why not book them in for a relaxing spa day with us?!

Grooming Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Services Do We Offer?

We offer a range of services to pets, from a simple bath and blow dry to a full groom.  Our grooms do include nail cutting services if required, or there is the option to bring your pet in simply for their nails cut.  For further information about our grooming services and prices check out our Grooming page.  Our Facebook page is also regularly updated with the pets we have for grooming.

  • What Is The Grooming Parlour Like?

Our grooming parlor is designed to be clean, safe, and secure.  Both our bath and grooming table are hydraulic, meaning that pets can step in and out of the bath and up to the table without being carried.  We have enclosed areas for dogs that are drying off, these are not crates they are simply small rooms, with gates for doors so that the dogs can see out and watch what is going on around them while they dry.

The Grange Retreat does not use any drying cabinets for dogs, they dry supervised and with a bowl of water under a hair dryer in the open rooms at the back of the parlor.

  • When Can I Book A Groom?

Our groomer works Monday to Friday and weekends as and when required.  If you would like a weekend appointment please give us plenty of notice so that we can arrange for our groomer to be on site. There are three different ways you can get your pet groomed.  You can bring them in for a grooming appointment and be contacted when they are ready to collect.  Alternatively, you can upgrade a boarding package to include a groom before they return home.  Finally, it is possible to upgrade a day stay to a day spa stay.  Talk to any member of our team using phone, email, or our social media platforms to get in touch.

  • What Methods Does The Grange Retreat Use When Grooming?

The Grange Retreat has a force and fear-free policy at the kennels and cattery and our grooming parlor is no different.  We never use harsh restraint methods or negative re-enforcement for difficult behaviors.  Instead, we take all the time the pet needs, and if a dog is finding grooming a particularly arduous process we have various methods we use to distract, such as licky matts (which we sometimes stick to the bath or grooming table) and occasionally another member of staff will be present to calm and distract.

  • My Puppy Has Never Been Groomed Before What Do You Do Differently With Puppies?

The grooming parlor can be a noisy, scary place for young puppies, that’s why we recommend puppies have an introductory session or two before their groom.  At the introductory session(s) we allow puppies to explore our grooming parlor, taking in all the smells and equipment slowly. We then bathe them and try to get them accustomed to the different noises such as that of the hairdryer.  We don’t want to overstimulate puppies at their first groom, so we suggest they come for a bath and blow-dry before a full groom.  Our groomer will take all the time and patience they need to feel comfortable and at ease.

  • My Dog Has Allergies Can You Still Groom Them?

If your dog has skin allergies, chances are you have purchased or have been prescribed a medicated shampoo.  The Grange Retreat would be happy to bathe your pet using their required shampoo, just ensure that you bring it along when you visit The Grange with your pet and ensure the groomer is made aware of their allergies.
