A Day in the Life at The Grange Retreat

We understand that leaving your pet in the care of someone else can be challenging for some of you. Here at the Grange Retreat, we thought we would show you what it is like as a typical day in the life of a kennel/cattery assistant.  Although no two days are the same we stick to a strict cleaning and exercise regime to ensure your pets have the best experience with us.

Dog after Grooming

Check In

We start our day by checking in our newcomers. Pets can be dropped off anytime after 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends. Once you have said goodbye to your furry friend we will take them to their pen let them relax and start to settle in. We will give them breakfast if they haven’t already been fed. Any home comforts can be bought with you such as blankets, beds etc. However, each animal is provided with their own which has been washed prior to your arrival.

Walkies!

Walkies are next! We take the dogs out for a walk at least twice a day around our huge 8 acres of land. This gives them the chance to enjoy the fresh air, go to the toilet if needed and socialise with other dogs providing of course this is something they are comfortable with. Whilst some of the team are out on the fields you will find the rest making a fuss of our cats. We encourage them to join in some rigorous play chasing lasers or mice at regular intervals in the day.

We understand that each animal has their own personality and so we try to adapt to suit each pet’s needs. Paddock sessions for dogs also take place twice a day for approximately 60 minutes with an additional session added for boarders in the evening to allow for a toilet break before bedtime. This is a great opportunity for playtime and more socialisation.

Food

For most animals, food is always on the brain! We provide an all-inclusive food programme that includes breakfast, lunch (if required) and dinner up to the day of departure. We have food available if your dog/cat isn’t fussy but most owner’s prefer to bring in their own. If you are going to bring in food with you, please make sure there is enough to cover your pets stay and let us know the measurement of food they require at each meal time.

Home Time and Clean Down

Check out process is always exciting as you are reunited with your loved one. Don’t worry, if your dog gets muddy we’ll provide a complimentary bath before you pick them up. Pick up times are between 8am and 5pm on a weekday and 9am and 4pm on a weekend.
No day is complete without a poo pick to keep our grounds looking in tip top condition and a thorough clean down of all the pens that have been checked out of. This includes a complete wash down, blankets and beddings washed and changed ready for the next guest.
